{m stands for}: You Know Me Well ...

If you know that I LOVE my Utah Jazz. My dad used to take each of us girls to a game with him from time to time while we were growing up, and if we were really lucky, we got to accompany him to the box seats he'd get from work friends ... now that was the life! I surprised Grant this Christmas with tickets to the Trailblazers vs. Jazz game in Portland at the end of this month, and he literally teared up with excitement. The Jazz's amazing last-second win the other night against none other than the Cleveland Cavs has us pretty revved up to go watch the Jazz play in person from our nosebleed seats at the Rose Garden in a little over a week. If you haven't seen this already, you need to know that the player who sinks the buzzer-beating, game-winning shot for the Jazz is their newly acquired ROOKIE Sundiata Gaines, who they picked up from D-league team in Idaho. This clip has everyone in Utah, and the whole country for that matter, buzzing, and for good reason -- pretty amazing! Even hard-head Charles Barkley gave Gaines props for this career-changing shot. In the words of Hotrod Hundley, "gotta love it, baby!"

Why This Blog

The title and concept of this blog came from an idea that grew and then seemed to gel when I found the quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley's book, "Standing for Something." Since a blog is a way of representing through words and visuals who someone is, and thereby what they stand for, I thought I'd let this blog be about what "M" stands for (Monica, Mom, Marriage, McEuen, Mormon, and many, many other things).

For so long I've hesitated to get this blog going, wondering if the whole premise was too "preachy" and wondering if that might turn people off. It was at the passing of President Gordon B. Hinckley, the prophet of the church I belong to (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) when I realized how much more I truly DO want to stand for something, just as he always did. I want to be associated with and stand for good things -- marriage, motherhood, family, love, honesty, creativity, joy, etc. -- and I'd love it all the more if I could stand for those things in the way that President Hinckley did: without apology, but humbly, sincerely, and always with a gentle sense of humor. So in honor of his life and in an effort to follow along that same path of goodness, here I go, attempting to stand for something in whatever small ways I can.

Sherri said...: Josh and Tom will be cheering them this coming Saturday (23rd) at the Delta Center (I don't care if they call it Energy Solutions Arena now. It's the DC). Josh got tickets to two games for Christmas. Poor excuse for the drum set he was SOOO hoping for, but a lot easier on the eardrums around here, with no need for ear plugs or white noise machines.
